30 cm x 100 cm — Textile Artwork on Canvas

Product Description

Transference: Beech Bark is a layered textile artwork shaped by the interplay of rust, plant dyes, and the shifts of pH on nature. Created on natural fabric and mounted on canvas, the piece measures 30 cm x 100 cm, forming a tall, intricate surface of speckled tones and a circular impression.

The process begins with a beech bark immersion dye to create a mid brown surface from which to work from. A large, rusted circular object is placed at one end to encapsulate the inprint of decay. These preserved forms create contrast and depth, capturing the ephemeral marks of metal oxidation before they vanish.

Once the rust patterns are fixed, minerals and pH altering materials are used to change the colour of the original beech bark dye. Intricate speckles and clusters are created in swirls and curves. The minerals interact with the dyes deposits, drawing out warm browns, rusts and olives, hints of charcoal, and pale earthy tones that settle into the textured surface. The result is a mineral-botanical palette that feels both ancient and quietly atmospheric..

Mounted on canvas, Transference: Beech Bark resembles a tall, narrow monolith, weathered, enigmatic, and quietly imposing. Its surface is mottled with earthy tones: muted browns, ochres, and pale golds that blend and bleed into one another like the remnants of ancient paint or the residue of time itself. Subtle circular patterns emerge faintly, as though something once pressed against the material and left only a ghost of its presence. The contrast invites you to focus on its surface, to read the abstract marks as traces of forgotten stories or natural processes slowly etching their way into permanence. Perfect for minimalist interiors and collectors drawn to process-led, nature-driven textile art.
