Discover the process of natural dyeing with a complete kit designed to take you from undyed wool to your own naturally dyed skein of yarn.

Each Coppice & Colour Natural Dye Kit contains everything you need to dye 100g of British Kent Romney DK wool using traditional plant dyes. Choose between madder Root, for warm reds, terracottas and earthy pinks, or weld, traditionally used to create clear, luminous yellows.

Rather than simply giving you a recipe to follow, the accompanying instruction booklet explains the principles behind the process, guiding you through preparing and mordanting your wool, extracting colour from your chosen dye plant and dyeing your yarn. You'll also learn more about the materials you're working with, giving you the foundations to continue experimenting with natural dyes beyond the kit.

Choose your natural dye

Madder Root

One of the most important historic natural dyes, madder (Rubia tinctorum) produces a beautiful spectrum of warm colour, from soft peach and dusty pink through terracotta to rich brick and red tones.

Weld

Weld (Reseda luteola) is a traditional European dye plant renowned for its exceptionally clear yellow. Depending on your process, it can produce shades ranging from soft buttery yellow to bright, vivid gold.

Natural dyeing is a living, variable process. The exact colour you create will depend on the water, temperature, extraction and dyeing process, so every skein has the potential to be slightly different.

Your kit contains

100g Kent Romney DK British wool yarn

50g Madder Root or Weld

15g alum mordant

Step-by-step natural dyeing instruction booklet

Learn a process, not just a recipe

At Coppice & Colour, everything we teach is designed so that you can carry on without us.

This kit is an introduction to working with natural dyes rather than simply a way to reproduce a particular colour. By understanding how mordanting, dye extraction, temperature, time and fibre interact, you can begin to explore the enormous range of colour available from plants and other natural materials.

Perfect for beginners to natural dyeing, curious knitters and crocheters, textile artists, makers and anyone interested in traditional crafts, plant colour and working more closely with natural materials.

Once dyed, your 100g skein of Kent Romney DK is ready to become part of your next knitting, crochet, weaving or textile project.

Choose Madder Root or Weld from the options above to begin your first natural dyeing project.
