This 100% cotton bandana features striking black brushstroke swishes created by painting iron mordant paste onto oak gall-soaked cloth. The reaction between the tannins and iron forms bold, inky marks against a soft white background, giving the bandana an expressive, hand-drawn look reminiscent of charcoal, or abstract calligraphy.

Measuring approximately 55cm x 55cm, it’s a versatile, wearable, and artful accessory perfect for styling, gifting, or crafting.

Each bandana is made using a slow, hands-on process: the cloth is first soaked in an oak gall solution, then painted with iron paste, allowing the chemistry of the two ingredients to create deep black swishes with organic edges and natural variation. No two pieces will ever be the same, each one carries its own rhythm and movement.

Use it as a:

●Neck or hair accessory

●Handkerchief or pocket square

●Eco-friendly gift wrap or furoshiki cloth

●Altar cloth or ritual textile

●Sewing, quilting, or visible-mending fabric

●Daily essential with an artistic, botanical twist

Iron and tannin dyes are extremely durable and washfast, though gentle softening may occur over time, a natural characteristic of botanically dyed textiles. For best care, wash at 20°C with a pH-neutral, non-biological detergent, and avoid drying in direct sunlight.

A bold, expressive bandana created through natural dye alchemy, perfect for those who love wearable art, botanical processes, and one-of-a-kind textile design.
